2020 Notting Hill Genesis had to evacuate the whole block after intrusive inspections identified fire safety issues so serious that the safety of residents can no longer. LFB Commissioner Andy Roe has warned of complex fires in “modern construction blocks”, which can make it harder for firefighters to both understand and tackle. Modular construction methods have allowed construction companies to compromise voids between the factory-produced modules. THE LFB, FBU & the FPA have serious concerns about the fire safety of properties built using modular construction – particularly high-rise residential towers. Whole blocks are being evacuated or even potentially demolished costing building owners millions and having huge environmental implications. Affordable fire safety is essential.
